There was a reason Alaric had been single as long as he had. He was hard. Demanding. A relationship with him wasnât for the weak. Rush was perfect. Alaric felt raw. After cleaning Rush, he cuddled in next to him. Now he couldnât stop kissing him in the dark.
âThis was the perfect Christmas gift.â
He felt Rush shake with silent laughter. âThis wasnât your gift. I got you a box of those cigars you are always smoking outside my bedroom window.â
Alaric went still. Several thoughts hit at once. He didnât know which one to say first. It seemed he should explain. There was no good excuse. The truth was, he was crazy. He didnât want Rush to run, and he would when he figured that out, so he went with a different topic. âThatâs one hell of an expensive gift.â
Rush shrugged. He stroked Alaricâs chest, playing with his chest hair and making Alaricâs eyelids heavy. âI know you and I know whatever you did for me for Christmas will be completely over the top. This way, I know I tried with what I have.â
That irritated Alaric a little. Not enough for him to move and lose Rushâs touch, but he couldnât let the statement pass either. âWeâre not competing. As I said, this was the perfect gift. I donât want you to spend your money on me. I have money. What I donât have is this.â
He felt Alaric smile against his chest. âOh, boy. You must have one hell of a gift planned for me. How mad will I be?â
A smile snapped to Alaricâs lips. He felt like he had never smiled before Rush came along. Now the most ridiculous things brought him the most joy. He wanted to spoil the hell out of Rush. Rush deserved it.
âI just got you a nice bracelet.â
He felt Rush relax. âOh. That doesnât sound too bad.â
âI also had Chip take the title to the Navigator to the clerkâs office to register you as the vehicleâs new owner and add you to my insurance.â
Rush covered his eyes and took a tired-sounding breath.
Alaric waited for the explosion.
Instead, Rush blew out a sigh. âYeah, that sounds about right. Now I have to figure out how to sign that back over to you.â
Alaric rolled, pinning Rush beneath him. Fury had all his exhaustion disappearing in an instant. âTake it back.â
âAlaricââ
âNo. Take it back. I gave you a gift. Thank me and move on.â
âWhy is this important to you?â
âBecause you are, goddamn it. Now take it back.â Even Alaric couldnât believe how enraged he sounded. He never lost his temper these days. Alaric prided himself on his control.
âThank you, baby. Everything you do for me is beyond amazing. You blow me away. Youâre right. It makes me feel like I canât compete, but I shouldnât be trying because this isnât a competition.â
The tension drained from Alaricâs shoulders. He immediately felt like a monster for getting angry. His father got angry. Alaric wasnât that man. âIâm sorry if Iâm too much.
